Birmingham will be one of eight cities hosting the eighth annual R(un) for One 5K and fun run this month, but the race has relocated from Veterans Park in Hoover to Railroad Park downtown.

R(un) for One raises money for (un)adopted, an orphan care ministry operated by Lifeline Children’s Services. Lifeline Event Coordinator Savanah Church said last year’s race at Veterans Park raised $43,000, and the goal this year is $100,000.

The other races will be held in Atlanta, Georgia; Pace, Florida; Belmont, North Carolina; Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; Topeka, Kansas; and Nashville, Tennessee. There is also a Run Where You Are that participants can complete “anywhere around the world” on the same day as the races, Church said.

The (un)adopted ministry provides care and mission work in 16 countries in Asia, Africa and South and Central America, and the race website says 100% of proceeds from the R(un) for One will support that work.

The 2019 race will be on Aug. 24, with the 5K beginning at 8 a.m. and the 1-mile fun run at 8:45 a.m. Registration is $30 per person for the 5K and $15 for the fun run, and you must register by Aug. 5 to guarantee your T-shirt size.
