Resurfacing scheduled for Hugh Daniel Drive

by

About 8,000 cars travel Hugh Daniel Drive every day — and it shows. The road is looking a little worn down, but the city of Hoover and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) have recently begun a resurfacing project to fix that.

The project includes new pavement for 4,000 feet of Hugh Daniel, beginning at County Road 41, also called Dunnavant Valley Road, and heading west. The contract was awarded to Dunn Construction for $1.1 million, of which the city will pay 20 percent and ALDOT will pay 80 percent.

ALDOT Division 3 Engineer Brian Davis said that the notice to proceed has not yet been issued. He also said it’s possible that the contractor will ask to wait until the spring to complete the project, as the company will be given only 60 days to finish the resurfacing and winter weather can cause delays.
