Road closures planned for Big Kaboom

Drivers going through Chelsea this Saturday should make note of a few road closures.

On July 1, the City of Chelsea will host Chelsea Fest and the Big Kaboom, its annual fireworks show. The event will take place in the fields off of Chelsea Road, behind the Dairy Queen.

During the event, all lanes of Chelsea Road between U.S. 280 and Chesser Crane Road will be closed to through traffic. Chelsea Corners Way will be closed to through traffic at the intersection of Benson Plaza, according to a Shelby County Sheriff's Office press release.

The roads will be closed starting at 4 p.m. and will reopen at 11 p.m., and signs will direct to event parking and through detours around the event. 

Traffic from U.S. 280 will access Chelsea Road through a detour on County Road 39, and drivers on Chelsea Road will access U.S. 280 from CR 39 as well, according to the release. 

Sheriff's deputies will be on scene to direct traffic.
