The ninth annual Remembrance 10K Ruck and 5K Race will be Oct. 5 at Oak Mountain State Park. Team Red, White and Blue will host the event and benefits from the proceeds.

Team RWB is a nonprofit organization that aims to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity, according to teamrwb.org.

This unique distance race allows participants to immerse themselves in the lives of on-field soldiers. Racers will have the opportunity to compete in a 10K race while wearing a ruck, which is a weighted vest worn by soldiers to carry around supplies.

The rucks will weigh 40 pounds for men and 20 pounds for women.

Participants can run as individuals, but teams of four to six runners are encouraged by Team RWB. A 5K race without rucks will follow the conclusion of the 10K race.

The cost to participate as an individual is a $25 donation to Team RWB. To compete as a team, individuals are asked to donate $20. On-site registration will begin at 7 a.m. The 10K Ruck race starts at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K race begins at 9 a.m.

Awards will be handed out at 11:30 a.m. to the fastest team and the individual male and female winners.
