When the Shelby County Commission gathered on the evening of April 23, it was for a brief meeting.

Commissioners opened by approving past minutes from the meeting on April 9 in addition to bills, requisitions and the check register before looking further on the agenda. Together, the unanimously approved an alcohol beverage license for ALDI store #72, which sits in the former HHGregg location at 4639 U.S. 280. The ALDI opened in December 2017 to the delight of nearby residents.

Members of the commission also approved a road utility easement vacation located at Dunnavant Square. The easements — which were 30 foot utility easements — were located on Lots C1, C3, C4 and C5 of the commercial subdivision. Shelby County Engineer Randy Cole said the easement was originally included on the plat for a development at that location, but the owners were not sure why the easement was listed.

"It's not something we need, it's not something they need," Cole said, adding that the owners were looking to put some underground tanks in the areas of the current easements.

"None of us feel like we need it, and at a later date, if the easements become necessary, we can always rerecord whatever part might be needed," Cole said.

Cole recommended approving the removal of the easement and the commission voted to do so.
