Greater Shelby County Chamber honors students and educators of the year
The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce honored its 2014-15 Students and Educators of the Year during a luncheon today, April 29.
The honorees were selected out of 19 student nominees and nearly 40 teacher nominees in four categories: Elementary Educators, Secondary Educators, Career Ready Students, and College Ready Students. The luncheon at the Pelham Civic Complex was sponsored by America’s First Federal Credit Union.
Kirk Mancer, president of the Greater Shelby Chamber, said this is the second annual spotlight on teachers and students, and is designed to show businesses’ support of education.
The winners, who all got cash rewards and a trophy, were:
- Career-Ready Student of the Year: Payton Edwards, Montevallo High School
- College-Ready Student of the Year (tie): Christopher Robinson of Chelsea High School and Meredith Goggins of Montevallo High School
- Elementary Educator of the Year: Sharee Winslett of Vincent Elementary School
- Secondary Educator of the Year: Ashli Polizos, Oak Mountain Middle School
Other nominees were:
- Career Ready Student Category: Ethan Thompson of Calera High; Anthony Kelley Jr. of Chelsea High; Alex Rodriguez of Pelham High; Jacob Alexander of Shelby County College & Career Center; Jacob Toxey of Thompson High, and Judson George of Vincent High.
- College-Ready Student Category: Raven Edwards of Calera High; Andrew Thompson of Evangel Classical Christian School; Kylie Woodman of Helena High; Sydney Bayer of Kingwood Christian School; Aly Bonville of Oak Mountain High; Sarah Sansom of Pelham High, Grant Parker of Shelby County College & Career Center; Tanner Carter of Shelby County High; Kaitlin Beyler of Thompson High and Elizabeth Ross of Vincent High.
There were also 21 nominees in the Elementary Educators Category and 20 nominees in the Secondary Educators category.
