The Shelby County Commission passed several resolutions to accept bids for various services in the county.

For highway services, the commission accepted award bids for precast box culverts and concrete pipe. For water services, the commission awarded a bid for hydrogen peroxide.

A resolution to apply for a grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs for the Veteran’s Treatment Court was also passed.

The commission also reviewed upgrades to a basin at the Shelby County water treatment plant, which has allowed for treatment of upwards of 10 million gallons of water.

“We got that finished up about the right time. Our usage has gone up quite a bit,” said Michael Cain, manager of the water services department of Shelby County. “I want to commend our crews [and] the work they did on that.”

Two Fourth of July events were also announced, including Fire on the Water on July 3 at Oak Mountain State Park. Entry will be $5 a carload for the Oak Mountain State Park event. The other event is at American Village on July 4.
