Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call in the 6900 block of Old Highway 280 on Saturday night that ended with an officer shooting a 21-year-old man, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.

The call came at 10:16 p.m. on Saturday requesting help with a domestic situation involving one person with a mental illness, according to the release. At the home, this person, 21-year-old Nathaniel Dorough, reportedly charged the deputies while armed and did not respond to orders to stop.

According to the release, an unnamed deputy shot Dorough, then attempted first aid and called paramedics to the site. Dorough was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Shelby County Major Case Unit is investigating the incident with the county district attorney's office.

"The actions taken tonight will be reviewed in depth by the District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office will be completely transparent and forthcoming with anything they need to complete their investigation,” Sheriff John Samaniego said in the release.
