Four vehicles were broken into the evening of Feb. 14 in a neighborhood along U.S. 280 and Dunnavant Valley Road.

All four vehicles were left unlocked by the vehicles’ owners, and one vehicle with the car keys left in the ignition. Three packs of cigarettes and a .380 hand gun were among the items stolen.

The Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, launched a “Lock It. Hide It. Keep It.” campaign in November of 2013. Since that time, the sheriff and his deputies have met with home owner associations, city councils, commerce groups and civic organizations in hopes of sharing the message of this campaign.

Deputies suggest locking your vehicle every time you leave it unattended, hiding valuables under the seats, in the glove box or in the trunk and safeguarding your personal property to prevent becoming a victim.

Sheriff’s investigators are currently looking into leads that may possibly identify suspects involved in last Saturday night’s thefts. Residents are urged to contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office at 669-4181, through the Secret Witness line at 669-9116 or through our website at ShelbySO.com.
