Sheriff’s office searching for robbery suspect

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the suspect in a robbery that took place on Monday, Jan. 30. Deputies arrived at APCO Employees Credit Union at 370 Chelsea Crossroads in Chelsea around 2:30 p.m. in response to a robbery report, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

No injuries were reported during the robbery, and investigators from the sheriff’s office as well as the FBI responded to the scene.

After the robbery, a white male suspect who appeared to be in his 20s reportedly ran from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, according to the release. He was last seen behind the nearby Publix Shopping center, and was described as wearing a grey jacket, black T-shirt, blue jeans and a black and white baseball cap at the time. He has a dark beard and mustache.

The sheriff’s office helicopter is assisting in the search for the suspect, according to the release, and there is no reason for residents to be alarmed.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents that there may be an increased law enforcement presence in the area as deputies continue to search for the suspect,” according to the report.
