Thank you cards from Mrs. Lee Ann Cox’s 5th grade class at Forest Oaks Elementary were spread across the conference room table during Tuesday night’s Chelsea City Council precouncil meeting. They were thanking the mayor and council for all the items that they were able to get with funds from the city’s Nick Grant program.

A letter from Chelsea Park Elementary principal Jennifer Galloway was also read by Mayor Tony Picklesimer that also expressed thanks for the things her school received with the grant money.

“We have already distributed a lot of grants in the first few months of the program,” said Picklesimer. “Obviously from the financial numbers, even though sales tax is one cent higher, residents and those who do business here are still doing so faithfully.”

During the regular council meeting, the council voted to move the next meeting from Tuesday, March 3 to Monday, March 2 since it coincides with voting day.

“We are doing this so we are not competing with election returns for people who want to watch the meeting online,” said Mayor Picklesimer.

Also during the meeting:

During the community forum, Emily Sims from the Chelsea Library, shared that their coding clubs for kids and teens are doing exceptionally well and the response has been amazing. With 27 students between the two classes, they have created a waiting list and may add another class in the near future.

Dates to remember:

The next city council meeting will be held Monday, March 2 with precouncil beginning at 5 p.m. and the regular council meeting at 6 p.m.
