Some of the best Ultimate disc players in the Southeast will come to the 280 corridor this month to participate in the Mud Bowl, an annual tournament hosted by the Birmingham Ultimate Disc Alliance (BUDA).

Ultimate disc is a game involving two teams of seven people, attempting to score by catching the disc in the “end zone.” BUDA organizes a number of local league and club teams that play in winter and summer, as well as tournaments such as the Mud Bowl.

This year’s bowl will be June 4-5 at Sports Blast, 19220 U.S. 280.

BUDA President Steve Millburg said the teams will include locals as well as teams from around the Southeast, playing in men’s and women’s divisions. Some of the men’s division teams are also contenders for the USA Ultimate national club-team championships in the fall.

“The tournament will feature some high-level ultimate and some of the best players in the Southeast,” Millburg said.

Ultimate disc teams will be divided into pools to compete from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 4. On June 5, they will be divided into championship and consolation brackets to play from 9 a.m. to roughly 3 p.m.

Millburg said there is no admission fee and spectators are welcome. He recommended that visitors bring an umbrella for shade or sunscreen. Visit buda.leagueapps.com for more information about the Mud Bowl and Ultimate disc in Birmingham.
