Birmingham's first Campicon kicked off this weekend from June 15-17 at Oak Mountain State Park, bringing out comic book and cosplay enthusiasts, as well as families of campers.

Although day passes were available, Campicon offered people the chance to camp at the park, in addition to participating in the three-day event, which is one of the newest cons in the South.

Campicon 2018 included gaming, anime, sci-fi, various types of tournaments and trivia, local vendors and sellers of homemade goods, live music, food trucks, outdoor adventures and more. Many people also went home with cash prizes, merchandise and gift cards, according to the website.

The new con started out with a "campers only" party in the campground on Friday night featuring free food, trading, movies and games, and then started back up bright and early on Saturday for a day of panels, celebrity guests, cosplay, an archery tournament and more. Sunday ended the event with a day-long treasure hunt with a $2,000 grand prize.
