This March, the Folds of Honor Foundation will be hosting its second annual Patriot Dinner and Shootout of Alabama at the Greystone Country Club.

The fundraiser brought in $9,000 in 2017, but this year, they’re hoping to raise $30,000 to help families of disabled or fallen Alabama service members have the chance to achieve higher education.

“Our goal in 2018 is to expand our event profile, outreach program and scholarship awareness opportunities for Alabama’s military families,” said Russell Redford with Folds of Honor Foundation. Through the tournament, they are working to use golf to help increase public awareness and “rally Alabamians to champion the Folds of Honor mission,” Redford said.

The golf tournament, which is a modified scramble format, will begin March 19 following morning registration at 9:30 a.m. and a start at 10:30 a.m. at the Greystone Founders course.

Organizers will recognize the Seventh Fold Military participants, and guests will be welcome to play golf and attend an awards banquet with a live auction immediately following the tournament.

A dinner will also take place the evening before and honor fallen Alabama soldiers, recipients of the Alabama Veteran Award, FOH scholarships sponsors and past Alabama scholarship recipients.

The scholarship application window is open from Feb. 1-March 31.

“We all benefit from the sacrifice our nation’s military make to defend our freedom, flag and Constitution,” Redford said. “Freedom is not free.”
