Food Truck Thursdays returns to the Narrows

Narrows Resident Rachel Kim started an event last year to bring more food options to the Chelsea area and to provide an opportunity for neighbors to meet and mingle.

“I had lived in the Narrows for six years and with my last job, I was never at my house, so I didn’t know any neighbors,” Kim said.

When her new job gave her more free time, Kim decided to use it to create an event for the neighborhood, which became Food Truck Thursdays.

The Narrows Thursday Food Trucks has returned for its second year. It started back up on April 24 and will continue through October 24. It’s held every Thursday 5-8 p.m., weather permitting. Kim said their first year was successful and had great response.

“Our food trucks love it, and it’s super profitable for them,” she said. “We bring in one food truck at a time and have more trying to get on our schedule. We try to mix it up and have a variety each week.”

This year’s trucks include I Love Bacon, Cheezin’, Saw’s BBQ, Hollywood Grill, City Bowls, Ricardo’s and Eugene’s Hot Chicken.

Kim said people make friends while standing in line for their food. Many Narrows residents come out and get the food to take back home, while others will eat in the park area near the fire station.

In the summer, some will already be at the pool and pick up dinner and head back there. If people want to stay and eat, she recommends bringing blankets or picnic chairs to enjoy your meal outside.

“We invite the entire Chelsea community to come to Food Truck Thursdays,” Kim said. “We want to share the event with everybody and provide a place to meet other neighbors in the community.”

Kim shares the events on her real estate agent Facebook page at facebook.com/agentrkim.
