The Harvest of Hope Luncheon will take place Sept. 11 at The Club, with all funds going to locals in need.

The event will begin with a silent auction at 10 a.m., followed by the luncheon at 11:30 a.m. All funds from the event will benefit individuals and families in the Birmingham area who need financial assistance through Oak Mountain Missions Ministries.

According to their mission statement, Oak Mountain Missions is a nonprofit organization that demonstrates the love of Christ by providing food, clothing, furniture and financial assistance to those in need in Shelby County and the greater Birmingham area.

“Over 400 families receive approximately 75 pounds of food each month. That includes canned food, meat, fresh produce, pastries and bread. Over 40 families each month receive assistance for past due utility, rent and medical bills,” said Tricia Parks, volunteer and chair of this year’s luncheon.

As the Missions’ only fundraiser, this event makes up one-third of their annual budget, Parks said. She hopes many people can attend so they can continue to serve the number of low-income individuals and families who rely on the organization during periods of financial crisis.

The silent auction will include a wide assortment of items including sports memorabilia, beach condos and gift cards from local businesses.

Founder and Director of Oak Mountain Missions Ministries Roddy Cooper will be the keynote speaker.
