For more than 40 years, faith-based nonprofit King’s Home has helped hundreds of women and children find refuge from abuse, neglect and homelessness.

Those who wish to support the cause can attend the annual fundraiser called Kampfire for the King from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 at the King’s Home campus in Chelsea.

The ninth-annual event includes inflatables, hayrides, live music and a fishing rodeo with Bassmaster champion Randy Howell, according to event spokesperson Brooke West. Admission is free.

Community members “love coming out for a fun-filled day of family activities,” West said.

Before the Kampfire begins, King’s Home will host the annual Hope Run 5K.  Registration and packet pickup begins at 7 a.m. and the 5K at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $30 in advance and $35 on race day.

“We had around 100 racers last year, and we expect more than that this year,” West said.

“Nothing starts your day better than a nice run or walk outside when it goes to a great cause,” she said.

The top overall male and female finishers will each receive $100, and the top male and female finishers in several age groups will receive medals.

Organizers will also give away a fishing boat from Howell, valued at about $83,000. Those making donations at kingshome.com/randyhowell will be eligible.
