Last month, the Shelby County Law Enforcement Foundation presented $1,400 in training weapons to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Training Center.

These training weapons, presented to Lt. Cody Sumners, are exact duplicates in size and weights of the actual weapons carried by deputies on duty but are nonfunctioning. They are used in unarmed use of force training.

The duplicate weapons are brightly colored to ensure that training is being done with nonfunctioning simulators. The Foundation provided 15 standard Glock service pistols and four Colt M4 rifles used by patrol deputies. They also provided two compact Glock 27 pistols used by some investigators.

The foundation is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to financially support law enforcement agencies operating in Shelby County. This purchase was funded by contributions coming from graduates of the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy. More information about the foundation and the Citizens Academy can be found at shelbycountylefoundation.com.
