Southern Living is celebrating its 50th anniversary close to home.

The Birmingham-based magazine’s 2016 Idea House will be in the Town of Mt Laurel.

“For The Town of Mt Laurel to be hand-picked to host the 50th Anniversary Southern Living Idea House is quite an honor,” said Mt Laurel Vice President of Sales and Marketing Ray Jackson, in a press release. “Our community embodies all that Southern Living stands for by embracing a natural environment with a walkable town center, broad sidewalks, front porch friendliness, multiple parks and green spaces and leaving all the beautiful trees throughout the neighborhood.”

Birmingham architect Bill Ingram will work with Mt Laurel’s Town Builders Inc. to building a home in Mt Laurel and Southern Living’s aesthetic. A Mt Laurel resident, David Brush, has also been chosen as landscape architect.

Five designers will be assigned a room, with each room representing a decade of Southern Living. The designers will use a modern take on their designated era.

Jackson said he expects the home, which will remain open for tours upon completion, will bring visitors from around the Southeast.

“It is estimated that over 20,000 guests will view this home at Mt Laurel during the six months it is open to the public,” Jackson said.

Construction is underway on the house, and the project is expected to be completed by June 2016. Tours will then be open throughout the rest of the year.
