The Mt Laurel Library will host the official kickoff for its summer reading program, which allows participants to earn prizes for achieving their reading goals, on Tuesday, June 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

There are reading programs at the library — located in the Mt Laurel community in North Shelby County — for children, teens and adults, according to the library website.

The kickoff event, which will take place in and behind the library, will feature plenty of fun activities for kids, including games, crafts and face painting, as well as a slide and a bounce house. Refreshments will also be served.

Registration for the program began May 23 and continues until July 14, but children who sign up before June 4 will receive a special prize, according to the library website.

Participants in the program log the books they plan to read into the library’s online system. For each reading goal children reach, they earn “Library Dollars” that can be redeemed for books, toys, games, candy and other items at the Mt Laurel or North Shelby libraries. Each time a participant reaches a reading goal, he or she also earns a chance to win one of two grand prizes — a bicycle or a Kindle Fire.

The summer reading kickoff event is sponsored by the Mt Laurel Sale Center, according to the library website.

The Summer Reading End Party will be held at the library on Wednesday, July 27, at 2 p.m.

The Mt Laurel Library is located at 111 Olmsted St. The facility opened in June 2014 after several years of planning and fundraising.
