With children out of school before the Christmas holiday, parents will be looking for ways to keep them occupied and contain their excitement about the impending visit of that jolly old man with his bag full of goodies.

To help with this, Mt Laurel and North Shelby libraries have added some Christmas-themed activities to their usual event schedules.

Mt Laurel Library

6 p.m. Dec. 2: Tree Lighting Treats. After the tree lighting in the Mt Laurel town center, residents can stop by the library for treats, crafts and face painting.

6:30 p.m. Dec. 10: Holiday Floral Arranging. Local flower designer Allison Creel from Blue Rooster Farms will be demonstrating how to create an attractive holiday floral arrangement by simply using flowers from the grocery store and different items from your yard.

10:30 a.m. Dec. 18: Seasonal Preschool Book Club. Children will have the chance to hear Christmas books read aloud, work on seasonal crafts and enjoy some milk and cookies.

Nov. 26-Dec. 21: Elf on the Shelf Giveaway. North Shelby Library will be giving away elves as part of a special children’s program. In order to win, participants need to stop by the library or check the library Facebook page each Monday for the clues to help figure out which books the elves read over the weekend. Guesses can be submitted in person or on the Facebook page.

2 p.m. Dec. 2: Floral Design. Local flower designer Allison Creel from Blue Rooster Farms will be demonstrating how to create an attractive holiday floral arrangement by simply using flowers from the grocery store and different items from your yard.
