An old firehouse in North Birmingham became the new home for many homeless men in the Birmingham area, named Firehouse Shelter. The shelter is part of Firehouse Ministries, which since 1983 has been a safe haven for homeless individuals but has also given shelter, food and clothing. The shelter also provides a series of programs for to achieve stability and once again become a part of society.

There is no limit to the amount of time individuals can stay at Firehouse Ministries or how long it may take for rehabilitation. Volunteers are welcome, and financial support is very much in need by the community, as the shelter's expenses are usually more than $1 million each year.

The New Neighbors League Club of Birmingham decided to show its support by donating $500 to the Firehouse Shelter.

Judy Gross, secretary of NNLC, presented Firehouse Shelter Executive Director Anne Darden Wright at the NNLC’s Christmas luncheon.

The New Neighbors League Club of Birmingham is a non-profit organization whose original goal is to offer help to new residents of Birmingham and help them adjust to the city. While the club still has that goal, it also raises money to help different charities, such as hospitals, children's camps and others.
