Oak Mountain State Park is hosting their second Camp-O-Ween event Oct. 27 from 6-10 p.m.

The event is held only for campground and cabin guests as a special treat. It will start with activities for families including unlimited hayrides, children’s Halloween movies, bounce houses and more. The success of last year’s event is only expected to increase, with the park’s 100+ RV sites already sold out, all of the tent sites with electricity sold out and only about 20 of their 76 tent sites still available.

Due to the great experience of last year’s event, OMSP site coordinator Anna Jones said they are looking at 500-1,200 guests with pets welcome as well.

“We really saw parents getting their kids out and the kids just having a really great time,” Jones said about last year’s Camp-O-Ween. “And we’re very excited to be able to offer something that is pretty well contained and is going to be a safe family friendly event.”

The guests are encouraged to dress up in costume and participate in the Spookiest Campsite Competition by decorating their campsites. The event also brings Halloween traditions to the campsite including trick-or-treating, campfire stories and yard games.

Camp-O-Ween also had appearances from the Alabama Wildlife Center and the Interpretive Center last year, where kids were able to see native animals up close, providing a fun educational activity as well.

“That excited me,” Jones said. “I like for our kids to have a good time and have fun, but also learn a little bit, learn a little bit about the environment they’re in.”
