Brooklyn Holt, an Oak Mountain High School graduate, won the Miss Iron City Pageant on July 29.

She first started competing in the Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen program when she was 15 years old, after her voice teacher encouraged her to compete as a way to practice my vocal skills and gain scholarship money.

Her platform, “Raise Your Voice for Children,” addresses impoverished children and their family’s needs. Her goal also is for all children to realize that “we cannot dwell on changes, but we can accept them, work hard and turn them around, making them become our strengths.” Holt hosts “Raise Your Voice for Children” concerts around the Southeast, with proceeds going to Children’s Miracle Network, and has produced a CD titled, “Raise Your Voice.”

Holt is currently a student at Auburn University earning a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and a minor in business.
