Oak Mountain State Park Naturalist Lauren Muncher was surprised how quickly a workshop on tree ring printing filled up with interested people.

“I got the idea for Art in the Park: Tree Ring Printing Workshop off Pinterest and thought it would be fun,” she said.

On March 2, Muncher will teach two workshops during which 50 registered guests will take cross sections of tree stumps and she will walk them through the process of putting it on paper. Participants will then be able to take home a piece of tree history from fallen trees at Oak Mountain State Park and use it as a piece of art in their homes.

Since these classes filled up so quickly, Muncher said she hopes to offer it again in spring or early summer and tweak it to allow more people to attend.

“After I posted the event on Facebook, within three or four days, both workshops were full,” she said. “I want to see how I can make the next ones better than the first one.”

All naturalist activities are free with paid entrance into the park. They are posted on the OMSP Facebook page at: facebook.com/OakMountainSP.
