PHOTOS: Fido Fest goes to the dogs

On Saturday afternoon, a section of parking at The Summit was transformed into a fair ground for furry friends, as Fido Fest returned for its second year.

The event benefitted the Greater Birmingham Human Society and Hand in Paw, and brought visitors from across the area, along with their four-legged friends.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes, from tiny Yorkies to full-sized Great Danes strutted — or rode in strollers — up and down the line of tents filled with different pet-focused vendors. Pet parents could find a variety of collars, toys, beds and other items, as well as a caricaturist and photo booth.

GBHS was on site with its mobile adoption unit, adopting out eight dogs at the event. Multiple retailers were providing a percentage of sales to benefit Hand in Paw as well.

Other vendors, including the Fetch food truck for dogs and Snappy Gourmet, were available for visitors to make purchases for their pooches.

Dogs were also able to take a swim to cool off while their humans met some non-dog visitors, including Kevin the Hedgehog as well as animals with 6th Day Creatures.

Human goodies were also available from Taco Mama, Big Spoon and Doodles.
