QuiltFest is returning to the Birmingham area with two days of displays and demonstrations. This event, hosted by the Birmingham Quilters Guild, is held once every two years and invites members of the community to observe quilts handmade by guild members.

The Birmingham Quilters Guild is a not-for-profit organization and hosts workshops, retreats and other activities for members.

This year’s QuiltFest will be June 16-17 at Oak Mountain Middle School, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $7 for two-day admission, free to children 5 and younger.

The event includes a judged quilt show, vendor booths (including Hoover’s Robin’s Sewing Shoppe and The Sewing Room), door prizes, demonstrations on a variety of quilt patterns and other techniques and a special exhibit by Row by Row.

Row by Row started a few years ago, said QuiltFest publicity chair Becky Blair, and encourages quilters to visit brick-and-mortar quilt shops.

“You pick a pattern, and then if you complete a whole quilt with eight of the patterns, you can take it back to the quilt shop, if you’re the first one to complete it, for a prize,” Blair said. She added that new patterns will be available starting June 21, just after QuiltFest. “Most of the quilt shops around Birmingham are participating.”

All quilts in the judged show are submitted by Birmingham Quilters Guild members.

There will be a silent auction to benefit Meals on Wheels in Jefferson County. Bidding for the auction will open June 16 at 10 a.m. and close June 17 at 3:30 p.m. Winners will be announced at that time.
