Southeastern Trail Series continues with July 16 Hotter ‘N Hell race

As the fifth race in the Southeastern Trail Series, the Hotter ‘N Hell race is expected to be harder and hotter than its predecessors.

The trail race is July 16 at Cedar Pavilion in Oak Mountain State Park, and the day includes a 9-mile and 18-mile race. The course goes along the red bike trail, to the green/red connector trail and to the top of the ridge on Double Oak Mountain. 

Runners also will encounter Peavine Creek and the Peavine Falls Gorge’s steep incline on the course, before traveling around the paved road by Cedar Pavilion, meant to spread out runners according to the Southeastern Trail Series website, to finish the race.

The race is also a points race in the Trail Runner Magazine “Trophy Series.”

Registration for the race is available online through July 14 at ultrasignup.com. Registration for the 9-mile race is $35, $40 after July 7, and it is $45 for the 18-mile race, $50 after July 7.

Late registration for the race will be at Mountain High Outfitters in Cahaba Village July 15 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and day-of registration will be available at the Cedar Pavilion starting at 7 a.m. 

Late registration fees increase by $5, according to the race’s ultrasignup.com page. The page also notes there is a $5 per person entry fee for Oak Mountain State Park.
