Stansell named president-elect of national PR/communications group

The Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Leadership Assembly elected T. Garland Stansell, APR, as chair of the Society for 2020 at its recent national convention in Austin, Texas.

Stansell, chief communications officer at Children’s of Alabama, will serve as PRSA’s chair-elect on the National Board of Directors in 2019. He is a Hoover resident.

Stansell joined Children’s in 1994. He has more than 30 years of experience in public relations, marketing, health promotion, advocacy and fundraising. At Children's, he is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic public relations, communication programs and initiatives to serve the information and promotion needs of the medical divisions, business units, development and advocacy activities of the organization.

Prior to joining Children's, he served as vice president of public relations and development for Alabama Goodwill Industries and as assistant director of corporate communications for BancBoston Mortgage Corporation, Alabama Office. Stansell received his bachelor of arts in mass communications, public relations and business from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master of arts in public and private management from Birmingham Southern College.
