Tennis team reaches national tourney

The ladies USTA 55 and Over 4.0 tennis team, representing Alabama, recently competed at USTA Southern Sectionals in Asheville, North Carolina, against nine other teams from the area (Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky and Louisiana). 

The Alabama team was undefeated in the tournament and advanced to Surprise, Arizona, to compete at the USTA National Tournament on Oct. 21-23. The team plays out of Brook Highland Racquet Club and has members from the Birmingham area, Jasper, Tuscaloosa, Hanceville and Gadsden.

The team has been to Southern Sectionals each of the last three years and this is the first time it has advanced to nationals. Glenda Boudreaux, Sharon Brown, Donna Christie, Brenda Cohen, Kristine Fitts, Donna Gordon, Brenda Martin, Stacy Payne, Barbara Smith, Shelia Walker and Susan Womack join the team captains, Linda Metrock and Mindy Long.
