This Valentine's Day, Brookwood Diagnostic Center on 280 hosted Valentines Love Yourself Mammogram Party. The event was held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on February 14 for women age 35 and older to come get their annual mammogram screen and have fun getting pampered in the process.

"The event allows women who are a little nervous about the exam or who have not had a mammogram before something special to look forward to so that the actual exam does not seem so scary," Christina Brown, BDC Physician Relations Manager, said.

Each patient received a complimentary makeover after their mammogram, along with a complimentary “Mammosa,” various treats and a personal Valentine from the BDC.

"It was an awesome experience, and every lady should have it done. I felt so special and loved being escorted out to my car," said Sylvia Hamilton, who was the first patient at the event. She said she went back to her office and told all the ladies she works with that they should have attended. She also chose to get the 3D mammography this time.

"I kept getting call backs for fibrous tumors due to drinking coffee, and 3D mammography can look deeper into my tissue and reduce the need for me to come for a call back," she said.

Another patient, Kimberly Seagraves, said she had never had a mammogram before that day because she was too scared.

"This was my first mammogram, and I am 50," she said. "I have not had one before, and it was time to have one. I am so glad I decided to have one today at the Valentine’s event for my first one."

Seagraves said she surprised how fast registration and the actual mammogram ended up being. BDC gave a told of 23 women mammograms during the event.

"Every woman should feel pampered and special on Valentine's Day. Additionally, the event  allows a woman to love herself and place her health first by having her annual screen so that she sees another Valentines the next year," Brown said.

BDC plans to make the event an annual tradition on Valentine’s Day.
