As beautiful as it looks in your living room full of lights and ornaments, eventually, it will be time to derobe your Christmas tree of its tinsel and baubles to prepare for the new year.

However, a full-size Christmas tree isn’t easy to simply throw in the trash. Shelby County residents have some options if they need help disposing of their trees.

The Birmingham Zoo and Mountain Brook Board of Landscape Design hold a yearly tree recycling event from the day after Christmas to mid-January. The donated trees are mulched and used around the zoo.

Hoover residents can put the trees out with their regular trash to be picked up by Santek. Alabama Power will not be providing tree recycling for Hoover, as it has done in past years.

Trees can also be dropped off from Dec. 27 to Jan. 4 at the following Shelby County drop-off points:

► Heardmont Park on Cahaba Valley Road

► Chelsea City Hall

► Ray Building on Alabama 70 in Columbiana

► AmStar Theater at the Alabaster Colonnade

► Pelham City Park at the U.S. 31/Alabama 119 entrance.
