Mt Laurel Elementary will host its annual Turkey Trot fundraiser, a one-mile fun run and walk, on Nov. 10 at 9 a.m.

The Turkey Trot, which benefits the physical education department, begins at MLES, continues through the Town of Mt Laurel and finishes back at the school. Now in its 12th year, the event has become a yearly tradition for families, according to P.E. teacher Allison Gulock.

“It’s a great way for our school and community to come together for a morning of fitness and fun, whether you enjoy a morning walk or run the whole way,” she said.

Dressing in festive Thanksgiving attire for the Turkey Trot is also a tradition for many participants. This year, organizers will recognize them with the first-ever Gobble Wobble Costume Awards, with the top three contestants winning Thanksgiving turkeys.

“In the past we’ve had children, adults and even dogs dressed in Thanksgiving attire, so we thought it would be fun to recognize those who go all out,” Gulock said.

Turkey Trot proceeds will help provide new equipment and incentives for the Mileage Club, a student running program, according to Gulock.

The event usually raises about $500, according to Gulock.

Top finishers in the run among the elementary and middle school students receive awards. After October 30, Turkey Trot registration is $10. Those who register by October 30 pay $15 but also receive a T-shirt.
