Kathryne Flippo of Bluff Park Elementary School and Vinny Chiaramonte of Bumpus Middle School have been named the Hoover school district’s 2015-2016 teachers of the year.

Flippo, the district’s elementary teacher of the year, has been teaching nine years, the last four as a kindergarten teacher at Bluff Park. She has been a mentor teacher and team leader there. She previously taught first grade at Gwin Elementary and was a practicum supervisor at Auburn University.

Flippo has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in early childhood education from Auburn University.

Chiaramonte, the district’s secondary teacher of the year, has been teaching for six years, the last two as a computer science teacher for grades 7-8 at Bumpus. He facilitates several staff development and leadership activities at his school.

Chiaramonte previously taught in the Shelby County school system and at a private school in South Carolina. He has a bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies from Toccoa Falls College and a master’s degree of secondary education in social sciences from the University of Montevallo.

Each Hoover school named its own teacher of the year, and the district winners were chosen from among them. Flippo and Chiaramonte now will be considered for the elementary and secondary teacher of the year awards for the Alabama Board of Education District 4.
