The Hoover City Council is now accepting applications from people who would like to serve on the Hoover Board of Education.

School board President Derrick Murphy’s five-year term ends at the end of May, and the council is looking for a replacement.

Hoover residents interested in applying for a seat on the five-person board may obtain applications on the city's website or from the Hoover city clerk's office at the Hoover Municipal Center at 100 Municipal Lane. Completed applications must be turned in by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 1.

The City Council usually makes its appointment in April after public interviews of the candidates. Whoever is appointed will begin serving in June. School board members serve five-year terms, and the position is unpaid, except for reimbursement of expenses incurred.

Fifteen people applied for the Hoover school board last year, and the council chose Jill Ganus Veitch.
