Hoover schools Superintendent Kathy Murphy is kicking off a new Advisory Council with a meeting at Metropolitan Church of God this coming Tuesday.

Parents, employees and other members of the community are invited to join the council, which will help develop a strategic plan for the school system.

Tuesday’s meeting, scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m., will serve as an overview of the Advisory Council process. Members of the council will continue to meet with the superintendent and/or department heads at designated meetings in the future.

Each person will be asked to select an area of school system operations in which they are most interested, such as strategic planning and capital needs, finance, human resources, curriculum and instruction, technology, child nutrition, transportation, communication and public information, operations and maintenance, and efforts to be set free from federal oversight of desegregation issues.

So far, at least 200 people have signed up to be a part of the council. You can sign up here.
