Every school year, Inverness Elementary School kicks of the fall season with a display of scarecrows. And while some use pumpkins for heads, the scarecrows are far from traditional.

Each class picks a book to read and then completes a series of activities that accompany their scarecrow. One kindergarten class designed broomsticks based on the book "Room On A Broom" while a first grade class collectively authored and illustrated their own story titled "David Goes To School."

Room moms assisted the classes in the design and assembly of the scarecrows that currently decorate the front of the school along Valleydale Road.

However, the scarecrows won't remain there for long. They will move to their new home at The Birmingham Zoo on Oct. 5 where they will be on display for Boo At The Zoo.
