Student raises awareness about humane society

As part of an independent school project, sixth grader Megan Cather brought awareness about the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) to her classmates at Liberty Park Middle School.

In the fall, Cather created an online survey asking her sixth grade classmates if they had any pets, if they had ever visited the GBHS and if they had ever adopted an animal from GBHS. Over the winter break, she took a tour of the Humane Society and interviewed one of the staff members. She shared what she learned with classmates through a presentation that included a virtual tour of the shelter.

To complete the project, she held a wish list drive to encourage students to bring newspaper, pet food, pet toys and fleece blankets. Megan and her dad delivered all the donated items to the GBHS.
