Mt Laurel student advances to top 10 at national geography bee

Kapil Nathan, a fifth grader at Mt Laurel Elementary School, has placed in the top 10 finalist in the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C. Kapil recently won first place in the State Geographic Bee and is competing nationally May 11-13. The final will be held May 13 and will air on the National Geographic Channel on Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m. central time. 

Kapil correctly answered "Australia" to name the country that includes the islands of Melville, Mornington and Bathurst to win a tie-breaker in the state championship round. 

Kapil received $100 and other prizes, in addition to an all-expenses paid trip to the national finals. The national winner will receive a $50,000 college scholarship and other prizes.
