Briarwood Christian School to perform West Side Story

by

This week, Briarwood Christian School is set to perform the classic musical, “West Side Story.”

Briarwood theater director Lee Eady is excited about the production, which is a tragic love story of a man and a woman caught between two rival gangs.

“It’s a rather large and difficult production, but the kids like to be challenged,” Eady said. “I also like that there is a great lesson the kids and audience can learn. The underlying theme is about prejudice, and it really gets you to ask yourself some thought-provoking questions.”

There are 46 students involved in the on-stage portion of the production, with 20 more behind the scenes. The score will be performed by a live orchestra.

Senior Cole Jackson and sophomore Halle Beasley will play the main roles of Tony and Maria. Choreography is by Claudia Butler and April Kirby, and Joel Mixon is the pianist.

The show will take place Thursday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17 in the high school’s Barbara B. Barker Auditorium. All shows are at 7 p.m., and tickets are $11 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at statechamps.com, search “Briarwood Christian School.”
