Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School (OLV) students are involved in service activities throughout the school year, and each year students participate in a school-wide learning unit.

This year’s unit, entitled iGive, brought students together to focus on four target organizations the school supports: Beacons of Hope Schools for the Diocese of Birmingham, Oak Mountain Missions, the Hyderabad Indian Orphanage in India, and “Our School in Action,” a program designed to serve our own OLV school and parish community.

Eighth-grade mentors coordinated the activities with homeroom teachers. Students brought in approximately 700 pairs of socks for others, made blankets and scarves for the needy, created placemats for the Hyderabad Indian Orphanage, made birthday cards for the “Birthday in a Bag,” created crosses that will be sent to Beacon of Hope Schools, and participated in a variety of similar activities to help others in need.
