Shelby County Schools has announced that all after-school activities, including after-school day care, have been cancelled or postponed tonight due to the threat of severe weather.

Meanwhile, Hoover City Schools will continue after-school activities, including extended day care, until 6 p.m. All after-school activities must end by 6 p.m., according to a statement issued by Hoover school system spokesman Jason Gaston.

Shelby County school officials said their decision came after coordinating with the Shelby County Emergency Management Agency and local and regional weather sources.

These sources determined Shelby County is included in a central Alabama weather band that may produce severe thunderstorms later in the day.
