Following a winter storm on Friday, Jan. 6 and a weekend full of below-freezing temperatures, both Hoover City Schools and Shelby County Schools have decided to alter their schedules for Monday, Jan. 9.

After a review of road conditions and consultation with first responders and Shelby County EMA, Shelby County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay. Bus schedules will also operate on a two-hour delay, according to the Shelby County Schools website.

Hoover City Schools will be closed for students on Jan. 9. The decision to close schools for students was made following a consultation with EMA official and the City of Hoover as well as a review of roads leading to and from school campuses, according to the Hoover City Schools website.

"Despite street sanding and other efforts to clear roadways, several hazardous areas remain on neighborhood streets from Bluff Park to Greystone," read an update on the Hoover City Schools website.

While Hoover schools will be closed for students, 12-month employees should report to work by 10 a.m. on Jan. 9.
