The press release stated that the virus continues to present unique challenges for school districts around the nation. One of those being the number of students who are out of school due to the virus.

For parents to be informed regarding the presence of the COVID-19, Shelby County Schools released a snapshot of data in the district as of Friday, Sept. 25, 2020. While the data is not a cumulative list of cases since school reopened, the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Alabama State Department of Education are planning to offer school system data in the weeks to come.

Until this database is released, Shelby County Schools will share information regarding positive cases in the district.

The data is represented per school zone within the district. The percentage shared is not a breakdown of students and employees per school, as the district maintains the responsibility to uphold FERPA rights of students and ADA protections for employees.

The numbers in the chart represent positive cases reported to the school district due to school or community exposure. The number of students and employees in quarantine includes both school and community-related cases.
