Retiring Shelby County Schools Superintendent Randy Fuller was honored Nov. 1 for his 42 years in education, including 12 as Shelby County superintendent.

Throughout his career, Fuller has served in many capacities including teacher, basketball coach, administrative assistant, assistant principal and principal. He began his administrative career as an assistant principal at Gardendale High School before being named principal of Oak Grove School.

After subsequently serving as principal of McAdory High School for five years, he was hired by Shelby County Schools in 1998 as principal to oversee the construction of Oak Mountain High School. After serving at OMHS for eight years, Fuller was elected superintendent of Shelby County Schools in 2006.

The Shelby County central office surprised Fuller with a custom basketball jersey with the number 42, honoring both his start and his lengthy experience in the education field.

He is being succeeded by Lewis Brooks.
