Winners of Inverness Elementary Scarecrow Contest Announced

In the end, both the tarantula and the scorpion walked away victorious. Ms. Price and Ms. Burke's third grade classes joined forces on their scarecrow project to recreate the characters from the book "Who Would Win?: Tarantula vs. Scorpion" by Jerry Pallotta. Voting from the Birmingham Zoo staff determined the outcome with Ms. Heard's kindergarten class coming in a close, unofficial second place.

The scarecrows, while initially stationed on the side of Valleydale Road outside of Inverness Elementary School, are now on display inside the Birmingham Zoo as part of the decorations for its Halloween event, Boo at the Zoo. The event will continue on Oct. 14-16 and Oct. 21-31.
