Pam Mitchell, Window Decor & Design

Pam Mitchell says the best thing about her job is that it doesn’t feel like a job at all.

“I never feel like I’m at work,” she said.

She’s a lover of fabric, and she loves windows and people, too.

“It’s more than window treatments to me, it’s building relationships with my customers,” said Mitchell, owner of Window Décor & Design.

She’s been in the window treatment business since 1997. Originally from the Cayman Islands, she was a decorator internationally and got her degree in interior design. But along the way, she found that though she loved it all, she had a special knack for windows.

“There are just such a wide variety of options when it comes to window treatments,” Mitchell said. “Not every type of window treatment works on every window.”

She doesn’t have a physical showroom anymore because she prefers to take her showroom with her, get to know her clients and their windows and then show them their options in person.

“I find that it’s more personable that way,” she said. “I love what I do — getting into the home, talking with people and finding out what they’re like and what they use the room for. I’m just really passionate about it.”

Mitchell said she also loves all the new things the industry has to offer.

“Motorization is big now,” she said. “There’s voice command, or you can use an app on your phone or a remote to control your window treatments. For me personally, it’s so interesting.”
