Lions cap regular season with emphatic victory

BIRMINGHAM – Briarwood Christian School made the most of its final tune-up for the state playoffs.

The Lions capped off the regular season on Friday night with a dominant 42-7 victory over Corner at Lions Pride Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter, Briarwood (7-2) poured it on in the second and third quarters, scoring six touchdowns and leaving no doubt as to the game’s final result.

Luke Reebals opened the game’s scoring late in the second quarter with a 58-yard touchdown run, which was followed just over a minute later by Christopher Vizzina’s 55-yard touchdown pass to Eli Steadman to give the Lions a 14-0 halftime edge.

Briarwood dominated the third quarter, beginning with Reebals’ 95-yard kickoff return to open the second half. Vizzina hit Brooks Donnelly for a 12-yard scoring strike to make it 28-0 just inside of nine minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Reebals found the end zone again on a 2-yard run before Tyler Waugh’s 37-yard interception return touchdown gave the Lions the 42-0 edge.

Corner scored its lone touchdown of the game with less than three minutes to play.

Briarwood begins its Class 6A playoff run next week, as the Lions host Hartselle.
