BIRMINGHAM -- The Briarwood Christian School football team scored four touchdowns in the opening quarter and cruised to a 43-0 win over Woodlawn on Friday night at Lions Pride Stadium.

"I thought we did a really good job, as far as coming in, being focused on doing our job and making sure Briarwood was being the best team we can be," Forester said.

The offensive fireworks were numerous from the get-go, as the Lions scored 29 points in the opening frame. Christopher Vizzina started things off with a 27-yard touchdown strike to Eli Steadman to open the game's scoring.

Luke Hand tackled a Woodlawn player in the end zone for a safety to make it 9-0, and Sawyer Tindall took a jet sweep 35 yards for a touchdown to make it 15-0. Just over a minute later, Nicholas Dicen returned a punt 57 yards for a touchdown and Luke Reebals' 51-yard run made it 29-0.

In the second quarter, Cooper Higgins scored on a 10-yard run and Haddon Stubbs returned an interception for a touchdown to conclude the game's scoring.

Briarwood taking control of the game early meant the Lions were able to give several players opportunities for well deserved playing time.

With the win, Briarwood improved to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in Class 6A, Region 5. Next Friday, the Lions host a significantly improved Huffman team.

"Any region win is a good win, but when you get into region play, it doesn’t matter who we're playing," Forester said. "It’s about being the best we can be on a given night. We know it’s a long season and we know we have to continue to improve to have success at the end of the season."
