CHELSEA – Chelsea High School's football team ran away from Woodlawn with a 56-0 homecoming victory on Friday night at Chelsea.

Seven different players found the end zone for the Hornets (2-4, 1-2 in Class 6A, Region 5), who raced out to a 42-0 halftime advantage and were only slowed down via a second half running clock. The Chelsea offense scored touchdowns on five of its seven first-half possessions, while the defense rounded out the effort by yielding just two first downs in the opening stanza. The offense did not attempt a single punt in the contest.

“It was good to come out and watch our kids compete. We played pretty well early. It was homecoming for the seniors and we got to play a lot of guys so it was a good night for these guys,” Chelsea head coach Dustin Goodwin said.

All six first half Hornets touchdowns were scored by seniors. Running back Collier Blair was productive in limited action, netting two first-quarter touchdowns (33 and 24 yards) while tallying 107 rushing yards on just six attempts. Fellow running mate Donavan Bivins also got in on the scoring, finding pay dirt from the 6-yard line, late in the first quarter.

Wide receiver Adam Reaves added a 10-yard scoring run while defensive lineman James Turnes scooped up a Colonels (0-6, 0-4) fumble and raced in for a 20-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Quarterback Hayden Garrison tossed a 26-yard touchdown pass and finished with 70 yards passing. Underclassmen Chris McNeill and Josh Williams adding rushing touchdowns of 1 and 6 yards, respectively, in the second half.

The Hornets defense allowed 75 total yards and forced four turnovers (one fumble, three interceptions) as Ernest Moore, Chandler Pruitt and Carson Freeman each had an interception.

Chelsea continues region play next week with a home contest against Huffman.
